Permanent Groundwater Dewatering at Santa Clara University

Three production dewatering wells were completed in a sand and gravel aquifer between 35 and 45 feet beneath the 200 by 200 foot building. Continuous pumping of the wells completed in the shallow aquifer lowered the water table and drained the overlying soils beneath the basement of the building. Within three days of the start of pumping, the library basement dried out and remained dry dry for the life of the building. Total discharge from the three wells was about 110 gallons per minute.
